Where the first GMT Earth came in white gold and the second in platinum, the final chapter arrives in titanium — lighter, darker, and more aggressively finished than anything in the GMT Earth series before it. Strictly limited to 11 pieces, it features a 45.5mm titanium case, a smoky sapphire crystal ring serving as the time display, a 24-second tourbillon inclined at 25°, and a three-dimensional rotating globe that makes one full revolution every 24 hours, showing day and night anywhere on Earth in real time. Why Titanium for the Final Chapter
Greubel Forsey chose titanium not merely for aesthetics but for a specific mechanical and philosophical reason: weight. Previous GMT Earth editions in white gold and platinum carried the refined, classical nobility those materials communicate. Titanium communicates something different — utility, precision engineering, the materials language of aerospace rather than jewellery. And at 117 grams total (including the strap), the GMT Earth Final Edition is dramatically lighter than its predecessors despite the same 45.5mm case dimensions.
Titanium does not just cover the case here. The bridges, GMT push-piece, crown, and folding buckle are all machined from the same material — making this among the most fully committed titanium implementations in Greubel Forsey's catalogue. The bridges carry a frosted finish with nickel-palladium treatment, a contrast to the polished and engraved elements on the case band, where gold plates bear Greubel Forsey's engraved statement of purpose.

The Greubel Forsey GMT Earth's Decentralised Sapphire Dial
The GMT Earth Final Edition's defining visual is its time display: not a conventional dial at all, but a ring of smoky synthetic sapphire crystal on which hour markers are applied via galvanic process and minute markers are engraved. It is positioned off-centre — a design principle Greubel Forsey has pursued across its collection to maximise the visible movement architecture within the watch. The sapphire ring allows full transparency to the movement beneath, so the gilded wheels, polished steel bridges, and mechanical components form the actual backdrop for the time display.
Off-centre and below the time ring sits the power reserve indicator — a useful feature on a hand-wound watch with 72 hours of reserve. The GMT complication is shown at upper left by a red triangular hand over a hand-engraved black gold disc filled with lacquer. The red hand is adjusted independently via the pusher at 11 o'clock, allowing the wearer to set a second time zone without disturbing the main time display.
The Globe: 24-Hour World Time Through a Sapphire Window

The globe sits between 7 and 9 o'clock, occupying the largest open space in the dial layout. It is a fully three-dimensional, rotating terrestrial model — not a printed disc or a flat map — and it completes one revolution every 24 hours in synchronisation with Earth's actual rotation. The sapphire ring around the equator acts as a day/night indicator: as the globe rotates, you can see which hemisphere is in light and which in darkness. A lateral sapphire window in the caseband allows the globe to be viewed from the side as well as the front.
Because reading precise times from a miniaturised globe has obvious limits, Greubel Forsey provides a more practical world time reference on the caseback: a 24-city disc flanked by an inner summer time ring and an outer winter time ring — one of the few world time displays that accounts for daylight savings time directly in its mechanism.
The 24-Second Tourbillon: Why It Runs Faster
Most tourbillons complete one rotation per minute. The Greubel Forsey GMT Earth's tourbillon cage rotates once every 24 seconds — 2.5 times faster than the standard. The cage is inclined at 25° to the horizontal, so as it spins it addresses multiple positions of the movement rather than correcting errors in a single plane. Greubel Forsey's engineering argument is that the rapid rotation, combined with the inclination, averages out gravitational errors more thoroughly than a conventional one-minute tourbillon — producing better chronometric performance from a single tourbillon than most multi-tourbillon watches achieve with greater complexity.

The movement comprises 453 components (86 belonging to the tourbillon cage alone), protected by three patents and driven by two fast-rotating serially operating spring barrels delivering the 72-hour power reserve. Frequency is 21,600vph (3 Hz). It runs through a synthetic sapphire caseback that reveals the mechanism in full, including the world time disc and the characteristic Greubel Forsey movement architecture.
The 11 pieces are distinguished from the 33 white-gold and platinum editions that preceded them by every element of the watch: lighter case, darker palette, frosted titanium bridges, smoky sapphire time ring, black rubber strap — a complete character shift from classical to technical. Current secondary market availability exists through select dealers; original retail was CHF 590,000 (~$650,000).
